A member of a robbery gang that shot dead four officials of the Ogun State Vigilance Service during a foiled theft at a petrol station along Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway has been arrested in a church.

It was learnt that the arrested gang member was receiving treatment in the church following a gun injury he sustained during the operations.

The Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspect, while escaping with other members of his gang, sustained bullet wounds from shots fired by the police.

Mr. Adejobi further explained that nemesis caught up with the thief when the police acted on a tip-off and arrested him while he was being treated for injuries he sustained on his leg, at church in the Ota area of the state.

“It would be recalled that the command had placed a manhunt on the wounded fleeing robbers and particularly, sought information from members of the public on their whereabouts,” the police spokesman said.

He also revealed that, alongside the injured robber, three other members of his gang were arrested at the church including a herbalist and an arms provider.

Mr. Adejobi, added that his men also killed three suspected robbers during a gun battle around Oko-Bale, Ilogbo Ota in the early hours of Monday. He said the robbers had attacked and robbed officials of the vigilante services in the area before their fatal encounter with the police, adding that items recovered from the robbers included a triple barreled gun made in Ghana, seven live cartridges, one rod, rope and cellotape.

The remains of the suspects have been deposited in the mortuary, he said.
